Fluoride and Sealants
Fluoride and sealants are two important treatments that can help you and your family avoid tooth decay, fight cavities, and prevent the need for fillings and root canal treatments. We offer these simple preventative measures during routine dental visits to provide lasting protection.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is an incredibly effective way to help prevent tooth decay. The chances are you’re already using toothpaste that contains fluoride, but our in-office fluoride treatment can offer even more protection.
During this simple preventative tooth treatment, we apply a fluoride varnish to the teeth with a small brush. The fluoride varnish we use at Smiles Family Dentistry is an award-winning patented formula that is superior to its competitors. When the varnish is applied, your teeth absorb the fluoride that helps remineralize enamel.
In-office fluoride treatment rebuilds weakened tooth enamel, reverses early signs of tooth decay and helps with tooth sensitivity.
For most patients, we recommend fluoride treatment during every routine dental cleaning and checkup. The ADA recommends topical fluoride treatment as often as every three months and as early in life as when the first tooth erupts, or six months of age.
Dental Sealants
We also provide dental sealants, one of the most effective options to prevent cavities, especially in children. A BPA-free dental resin is applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, covering the deep grooves and channels of the molars to help prevent food and bacteria from accumulating. Dental sealants are a simple, quick 100% pain-free, drill-free conservative procedure to prevent tooth decay. The molars bear the brunt of chewing, so they’re the most important area to protect.
You won’t notice the dental sealants at all, even though they’ll provide several years of excellent protection against cavities. Because they are applied to the back teeth, there’s no noticeable change in the feel or appearance of your teeth. If children or teens are likely to begin Invisalign treatment, dental sealants should be applied first, before the digital impressions of the teeth are taken.
Dental sealants are strongly recommended for both adults and children to prevent cavities. Patients who wish to take great care of their teeth should take advantage of this quick and easy treatment to help avoid cavities.
Unlike most dental offices, we offer a 2-year guarantee on dental sealants. We are so confident in the effectiveness of our dental sealants that we will replace sealants if they become chipped or are missing, and if a cavity develops within two years on a surface where a sealant was applied, we will refund the cost of the sealant!
